As part of the Levitt’s new “Share the Stage” program, local artists will have the opportunity to perform, share their talents with local youth, and engage in professional development as creative entrepreneurs.

Thanks to the support of Avera Health, each night the Levitt will kick off with an opening performance from a local or regional act. Opening acts will get to Share the Stage with nationally and internationally acclaimed Levitt headliners. Concerts will start on Friday, May 31, and run every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night through August 31, with shows continuing on Friday and Saturday nights through September 14.

“Avera is proud to be the sponsor for the new Share The Stage program,” Tom Bosch, Avera’s Vice President of Hospitality Services and a Levitt Board Member, said. “The Levitt lawn serves as a gathering space for our diverse community, helping to foster social interactions among a wide range of people. We have talented individuals right here in Sioux Falls and our region, and being able to feature them on stage is so exciting. We look forward to interacting with all who attend the free concerts over the summer.”

Opening acts start at 7 p.m., and headliners take the stage just before 8 p.m. The openers are local and regional musicians selected to complement the headlining act each night.

“We love welcoming people to the Levitt with a local opening act,” Levitt President and CEO Nancy Halverson said. “It’s a great way to introduce our audience to the many talented musicians in our community.”

Notable opening acts this year include the Johnson/McKinney Quintet who will open the season on May 31, setting the stage for Terrance Simien & The Zydeco Experience. Stella Standingbear, a rising Native hip-hop artist, will open for Kelly Jackson on Friday, July 26 as part of the Mitakuye Owas’iƞ * All My Relatives * Mitákuye Oyás’iŋ Festival.

Open Mic Night will also return to the Levitt this year, hosted by local artist and DJ Soleil Bashale. Open mic starts at 6:30 p.m. and artists can sign up that evening starting at 5:45 p.m. to share their music with the Levitt crowd. Open mic will take place on Thursday, June 27, Thursday, July 25, and Thursday, August 29.

Kids ages 9-18 will also be Sharing the Stage this summer thanks to three new summer camps presented in partnership with Augustana University. Levitt Latin Jam Camp for ages 9-11 will run from June 17 to June 21, Levitt Hip-Hop Jam Camp for ages 11-14 will run from July 15 to July 19, and Levitt Songwriting Jam Camp for ages 14-18 will run from June 24 to June 28. Each camp culminates with a performance on the Levitt stage where students will share their talents alongside Levitt artists. In addition to Avera, support for Levitt Jam Camp is provided by the Promising Futures Fund, Marsh McLennan Agency, Suzanne and Larry Fuller, and a legacy gift from the Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Society.

In addition to providing musicians with the opportunity to share the stage, Avera’s support also helps Levitt provide further professional development for local artists and music entrepreneurs. Through Music Maker Mixers, the Levitt connects area musicians and provides opportunities to network and grow.

The Levitt also brings these local musicians to different areas and events in the city through the Levitt in Your Neighborhood Program to reach all members of the community. Additional support for Levitt in Your Neighborhood is provided by Tess Kirby.
